2026 North Island Backgammon Championship

Open to all Backgammon Players.

Friday, September 25th

Doubles – Play starts at 3:00 PM at Raglan Old School Arts Centre. Knockout Format.

Saturday, September 26th

Standard Swiss Format. Everyone is guaranteed to play 5 – seven-point Matches.

The pairings are random in the first Match. Players are not eliminated if they lose the first Match.

No Player meets the same opponent twice. Successive rounds match Players with scores as similar to each other as possible.

By the 3rd Match Experts are playing Experts, Average are playing Average and Novices are playing Novices.

Sunday, September 27th

Top sixteen (16) Players from the Swiss Format will play Knockout Matches to determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Plate Tournament for those who do not make the Knockout Match. Standard Swiss Format. Everyone will play 4 – seven-point Matches.

Clocks are MANDATORY.

Baffle boxes are PREFERRED.

Entry Fee: $60.00 NZD. 15% Discount for ANZBGF Members.

Ticket includes Morning Tea, Lunch and Afternoon Tea on Saturday and Sunday.

Trophies / Prizes will be given to winners and runners up.

The 2026 North Island Backgammon Championship is sponsored by ANZBGF and will be played using ANZBGF rules.

You do not have to be an Expert to enter the Tournament. You are guaranteed to play at least 5 – seven-point Matches against Players whose skill range is Expert to Novice.

It is a lot of fun and an excellent Backgammon learning experience.

There will be an opportunity to have dinner together & play a few games of Chouette. A wonderful social event and Raglan is a fab spot to chill.
